High Court of Bombay
One of the oldest High Courts of India, the High Court of Bombay was inaugurated in 1862. Goa High Court is one of the courts whose jurisdiction covers different states, specifically Goa, Maharashtra and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu. It was not until 1948, after the independence of India, that the first person of Indian nationality was designated as Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay, Justice M. C. Chagla.

High Court of Bombay: Chief Justice
This court has a very broad history, as it is one of the oldest courts in India. The first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India after his independence, H. J. Kania, was working in the High Court of Bombay before being promoted. Currently, the Acting Chief Justice of Goa is the Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani.
Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani is the second woman to be appointed as Chief Justice in the High Court of Bombay, and she is currently in her second term. She was selected as Chief Justice between 2015 and 2016, and again in December of 2017. Born in 1958, she entered the world of high courts in 1982. For the year 2001 she was promoted to the position of Judge of the High Court, the 26th of June.
