The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers is a body in India that is responsible for planning and regulating the production. This department also monitors the use of chemicals, pharmaceutical drugs and fertilizers in the country. Its deciding head is the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. 1. Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals

The Ministry of Industry in India governed the activities of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals till December 1989. After that, the Ministry of Petroleum and Chemicals administered this department till 1991. From 5th June, in the year 1991, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals functions under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.chemicals

The Department is accountable for planning, regulating and development of petrochemicals and chemicals, including:

  • Pharmaceuticals and drugs
  • Molasses
  • Alcohol
  • Petrochemicals
  • Plastics
  • Synthetic Rubber etc.

The three divisions of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals are Chemical Division, M&E (Monitoring and Evaluation) Division and Petrochemicals Division.

2. Department of Fertilizers

The previous name for the Department of Fertilizers or DOF was the Department of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The primary activities of this department include theplanning, development, and promotion of the fertilization industry, monitoring the production, distribution, and import of fertilizers. This department gets financial help for imported and indigenous fertilizers.fertilizers

It has four divisions:

  • Fertilizer Projects and Planning
  • Administration
  • Fertilizers Imports, Movement, and Distribution
  • Finance and Accounts

3. Department of Pharmaceuticals

In the year 2008, on 2nd July, the cabinet Secretariat declared the establishment of a novel department under India’s Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers with the aim of focusing on the Pharmaceutical Sector’s development in our country. This new department is the Department of Pharmaceuticals. The Department has several essential tasks like monitoring the availability and pricing of several medicines at the reasonable price range.pharmaseuticals

It provides technical support to the pharmaceutical sector in times of national crisis. It also promotes PPP (Public Private Partnership). The Department even administers the activities of drug manufacturing agencies like Hindustan Antibiotics, Bengal Chemicals, and Pharmaceuticals, etc.
