1. The Department of Commerce

The primary duties of the Department of Commerce are formulating as well as implementing the policy for foreign trade, management of bilateral and multilateral commercial connections, state trading, etc. This department is also responsible for export promotion, regulation, and development of several export-centric commodities and industries. It functions as an export inspection agency.

2. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has been in existence since the year 1995. The Department of Industrial Development became a part of it in 2000. The department’s primary job is the formulation as well as the implementation of developmental and promotional measures for growth and development of the country’s industrial sector. It performs its role according to the socio-economic aims and national priorities of India.

While the different administrative ministries track the production, development, and distribution of materials of various industries, the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion looks after the Industrial Policy. It focuses on facilitating and increasing the country’s FDI flow. The Department also calculates the Wholesale Price Index (WPI).
