The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in the state of Karnataka is accountable for providing developmental programmes for buffalo, poultry, goats, cattle, sheep, piggery, etc., in India. The primary function of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services is to look after all aspects of Poultry and Livestock development in the state, like, processing, marketing and production of poultry and livestock through monitoring production of eggs, wool, meat, and milk. With the aim of getting maximum production, it is mandatory to maintain a healthy stock. Therefore, AHVS Karnataka pays particular attention in taking care of the health of animals and protecting them from diseases.
The Karnataka State Government has also introduced infrastructure development and multiple programmes for promoting improved animal husbandry practices. The Department also takes part in offering extension support and required training to producers of livestock. It also recruits efficient veterinary doctors to take care of the health of these animals and to cure them when they are sick.
