After India gained its independence in the year 1947, the Planning Commission got the responsibility of directing and overseeing development of our nation. As the Commission realized that our country needs more trained managers for managing the country’s newly-established public sector enterprises, in 1959 the Planning Commission invited George Robbins, a professor at the University of California. He recommended the Indian Government to set up management institutes.
