Bar Council of Karnataka
The Bar Council of Karnataka is an autonomous body in the state of Karnataka. It is under the administration of the Bar Council of India or BCI. The constitution of the Karnataka Bar Council took place according to the provisions of the 1961 Advocates Act which clearly states that apart from the Bar Council of India, the Indian states need their individual bar councils. The first woman candidate to become a member of the State Bar Council of Karnataka was Smt. Sandhya B. Madinur. At present, the Karnataka State Bar Council has 25700 female members.

Law graduates in the state of Karnataka need to pass the Karnataka Bar Council Exam to practice law in the state. You can download the previous year’s question paper and prepare for the upcoming exam of AIBE. After passing the exam, a candidate gets the Karnataka State Bar Council Certificate of Practice without which he cannot practice law in the state.
The Bar Council of Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund Scheme
Though lawyers have existed for centuries. There has not been any scheme of welfare fund, retirement benefits or pension for lawyers. The Bar Council of Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund Scheme is an initiative to rectify the situation. Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund Act of 1983 was optional when it came into existence on 1 November 1986. The Act became compulsory from 1997’s 2nd April. This Act came according to the amendments. The most recent Amendment of this Act took place in the year 2017, on 12th June.
The total number of members available in the Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund is 89,893. Till now, the Karnataka Bar Council has offered Rs. 28,66,40,800 economic assistance in between 2010’s 6th August and 2017’s 10th June to the people of the bereaved families, Rs 2,97,47,000 for medical aid to the advocates and Rs 9,01,30,350 as Retirement Claim.
