Udaipur, the ‘Venice of the East’, located around chromatic water lakes and surrounded by the lavish green of Aravali hills, Rajasthan State. The city of Lakes lies in the southern part of the state, Rajasthan, India, close to the border of Gujarat. It separated from Thar desert by the Aravali Range.
Udaipur History
Maharana Udai Singh II founded Udaipur as the Mewar’s new capital in 1553. It is located in the orbicular Girwa Valley to the southwest of the first capital of Mewar, Nagda. Maharana Udai Singh II, at the rear of the 16th century, beginning of artillery war, decided to move his capital to an untroubled place during his exile at Kumbhalgarh.
Maharana Udai Singh constructed a seven-gated, six-kilometer long wall to defend Udaipur from foreign incursion. Ambapole, Brahmpole, Chandpole, Hathipole, Surajpole, Udiapole and so on are the names of those seven Gates. The region inside these walls and gates is famed as the old city or the walled city.

Fateh Sagar Lake’s Solar observatory located on an island is only of its kind among other observatories in India. The ten-day Shilpgram Festival attracts large people interested in arts and crafts.
